MAC foundations 101

Hey guys!!

I really enjoyed doing my 'MAC lipstick 101' post so I thought I'd hit you up with another one but about MAC foundations this time. MAC is the first ever 'high end' brand that I ever brought and for a very long time that's all I would buy and use - times changed and since then I have experimented with lots of different brands out there... But I always seem to end up coming back to MAC since I do think they make some of the best foundations that are available.

Studio Fix Fluid Foundation
'An oil-controlling formula that offers a natural matte finish with medium to full coverage'. - MAC

If I am being honest I would totally say that I think this foundation is definitely more full coverage than medium, if I have any blemishes on my skin this covers them up with ease. I think that this foundation is definitely a satin/natural matte finish because even with my terribly dry skin this foundation will still give me nice subtle healthy glow. For whatever reason I love the smell (trust me idk either).

  • Has SPF 15.
  • So many different shades are available.
  • If you have sensitive skin I would approach with care - I have heard of quite a few different people saying this foundation breaks them out.
  • Long wearing 7+ hours
Price
£23.50 for 30ml

'A comfortable, long-wearing foundation that gives medium coverage with a natural matte finish and up to 15 hours wear in any environmental condition'. - MAC

This to me is more of a matte finish than Studio Fix, in saying that I still find that this foundation is comfortable on the skin. If I have some dry patches on my skin or some texture then this foundation can exaggerate and cling to them so I wouldn't really suggest this product to people with dry skin unless you are prepared to use a lightening/glowy primer (or having a good skin day). This would be great for people that have combination/oily skin.
  • Will help to control oils on the face.
  • Lasts a long time on the skin.
  • No SPF so would look great in pictures since there would be no flashback.
  • Doesn't transfer.
Price
£27.00 for 30ml

'A lightweight foundation that delivers a natural satin finish and sheer coverage' - MAC

This foundation is great for people that aren't really that into wearing makeup or just someone that likes a little coverage on the face. This foundation makes your skin naturally flawless if that makes sense? It looks just like your skin but healthier. I recommend this foundation for someone that has dry skin, but also pretty clear skin just because it doesn't cover blemishes too well. In saying that it is really easy to build up to like a medium coverage.

  • Can be brought in 50ml and 120ml.
  • Really natural.
  • Could be mixed with a matte foundation to make it more dewy/glowy.
Price
£23.50 for 50ml
£29.50 for 120ml

'A formula with customisable pigments and medium buildable coverage in a demi-matte finish' MAC

This foundation is medium coverage but you can definitely build it up to a more full coverage. It gives you a nice matte finish and I think this would suit someone with normal/combination/oily skin type.

  • Has SPF 15.
  • Wears for a decent amount of time.
  • Oil free.

Price
£29.50 for 35ml

'The natural satin finish makes skin appear refined, refreshed and lit from within' - MAC

This foundation I love because it is great for people like me with dry skin, the only thing I don't like about this is that the coverage isn't great on my skin. But if you are someone that likes it natural then it is a great product. I like to use this foundation with another one because sometime a totally matte finish can make you look a bit flat so adding some of this helps give the skin some luminosity.

  • It's pretty long-wearing for a hydrating foundation.
  • Has SPF 15.
  • Gives your skin a healthy glow.
  • Suitable for sensitive skin.
Price
£29.50 for 30ml

'A waterproof formula that lasts for 24 hours and can be used as a foundation or concealer' - MAC

I really wanted to love this foundation but it just wasn't for me, with my dry skin I found it really hard to get an application that didn't look cakey or didn't cling to any of my dry patches. I think this foundation has really great coverage and and it doesn't transfer like some others do. I think this would look amazing on someone with combination/oily skin because I can imagine that it would really keep your oils at bay.

  • Stays true to colour.
  • Lasts a really long time on the skin.
  • Oil free.
  • Waterproof.
Price
£27.00 for 25ml

'A gel-based foundation that offers medium to full coverage with a natural satin finish' - MAC

This foundation has a very special place in my makeup heart since this was the first high-end foundation that I ever brought. It is truly an amazing product for people with dry skin, although you will need to set your face a little bit since it does transfer and can remain kind of tacky and sticky for a little while. But it is seriously hydrating and the coverage is pretty amazing, definitely medium to full.

  • Can be long-wearing if you set it with powder.
  • Very glowy on the skin.
  • Has SPF 15.
  • Gel based formula.
Price
£27.00 for 40ml
